I Love You
2024
I Love You is a sculpture made of plaster and plywood. The work presents a single arrangement: a shallow plaster bowl holding a carved wooden form, accompanied by a pair of wooden sticks placed beside it. The objects are carefully positioned on a pedestal, forming a quiet and deliberate composition.
The sculpture draws from the artist’s experience of growing up in an East Asian family, where expressions of love often appear through everyday objects and gestures rather than direct speech. Care is conveyed through placement, containment, and restraint.
Within this still configuration, I Love You reflects on affection as something shaped by proximity and control. The work holds tenderness and discomfort at the same time, allowing both to exist without resolution.
